Dear Judges,

My topic is explaining the difference between Medical Assisting and Nursing. I choose this topic because my career choice depends on the pros and cons on the outcome of my project. I will be showing pictures of myself playing the part of a Medical assistant as I point out their duties, then show a power point to compare it to Nursing. My power point will be describing and proving why one career choice is better then the other. The duties of Medical Assistant vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner’s specialty. In small practices, medical assistants usually do many different kinds of tasks, handling both administrative and clinical duties and reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. Those in large practices tend to specialize in a particular area, under the supervision of department administrators. Nurses provide patient care under the direction of a doctor. When caring for patients, nurses establish a plan of care or contribute to an existing plan. Plans may include numerous activities, such as administering medication, including careful checking of dosages and avoiding interactions; starting, maintaining, and discontinuing intravenous (IV) lines for fluid, medication, blood, and blood products. Nurses are above on the totem pole when it comes to Medical Assistants, and always will be.

During this project, I have learned many different things about myself that I was not aware of beginning this project. I have learned that i may not have the patience to become either one of my career choices that I have explained above. I have also learned that I may need to be looking into another field other then the Medical field. If I could choose any other career choice other then the two, I would want to receive a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I love working with kids and making them feel warm and welcome by a elder. No matter what career choice I may choose, making others happy is the main goal I would like to achieve. This is why I feel any of these three fields would be the top three for myself. On the other hand, I may not proceed in that observation of myself, because I have always been a caring and loving person. I feel if i am as passionate as i believe myself to be with these career choices, then I can achieve any goal in life. Other then showing the differences in Medical Assisting and Nursing, my main reasoning in this project is to show others that making your career choice in life is very important decision. Over 70% of the jobs in the United States deals with other people. If your not happy with your career, nine times out of ten, you will make everyone else around you at your job, unhappy also.

While achieving this project, there as been a very wide range of easiness to difficulty. Starting from the easiest, creating my yola site and typing my Personal Statement, Letter To The Judges, etc.. Following such as those, finding my mentor and shadowing her would be next in line. I have become very close with my mentor. I have become close to her simply because she has helped me make a final decision on my career choice. She has pointed out the pros and cons of Medical Assisting and Nursing, and it has made 100% sense, being that she is an Medical Assistant herself. She knows every struggle and obstacle a Medical Assistant will go through. She also knows many positive things, such as the enjoyment of seeing the smiles on patients faces. Finally deciding what's best for my career choice in life was defiantly the most difficult part in finalizing my project. This project has opened up many doors for me that I would have never seen.
